Activity Week | CME | Public Programs | Press Coverage

BJD aims to spread awareness regarding bone and joint diseases, promote prevention of rheumatic musculo-skeletal disorders and empower patients. To fulfil these aims, various educational programs are conducted free of cost by BJD-INDIA.

A public function organized by BJD - India Pune & Mission Arthritis India (a patient support group) was attended by 800 people where Health Education talks were delivered by eminent people, some of whom were patients of arthritis themselves. BJD brochures & Health Education materials were also distributed.

A similar public function was held in village Bhigwan (Pune District), 100 kms. away from Pune on 20.10.2001, where a World Health Organisation - International League of Association of Rheumatologists - Community Oriented Programme for the Control of Rheumatic Diseases (WHO-ILAR COPCORD) PROGRAMME IS BEING CONDUCTED SINCE 1996. More than 400 villagers & 20 doctors attended it. 190 patients with various forms of arthritis and spine disorders were provided free - of - cost medicines and laboratory examinations by Centre for Rheumatic Diseases, Pune, which set up a special laboratory at site. Rural based journalists who provided excellent coverage attended the programme.

In Jaslok Hospital, Dr. Pispati delivered a Health Education talk on "Myth & Reality of Arthritis" to about 100 patients.

Jammu

12.10.2001

Govt. Medical College (GMC) followed by a Free Medical Camp of Rheumatic disease on 14.10.2001 conducted a CME on "RA- Emerging Therapies" on 12.10.2001.

World Osteoporosis Day was celebrated at Women's College in Jammu, which was attended by more than 100 faculty members. Public awareness lecture on Menopause & Osteoporosis was delivered.

All activity functions were well covered by regional & national news media.

New Delhi

19.10.2002

A BJD - ISBMR (Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Research) public awareness program on Osteoporosis held at India Habitat Center was attended by 140 people from different sections of society. An introduction to WHO Bone and Joint Decade was given. The Chief Guest for this Program Dr. Nazma Heptullah (Deputy Chairperson, Rajya Sabha, and Chairperson of Indian Council for Cultural Relations) delivered a practical talk on 'Osteoporosis & backache'. An interactive session on 'Building Healthy Bones' was conducted.

A meeting to spread awareness about BJD, its aims and objects and the present scenario in India was organized. A lecture on 'Osteoarthritis of knee, the causes, stages, remedy and its prevention' was also delivered. Souvenir containing detail information on 'Backache' in Marathi and English with pictorial charts of spinal exercises was distributed free to 700 people.

Jammu

A lecture on 'Rheumatoid Arthritis - Trends in Management' in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, followed by a question and answer session was attended by a large number of senior and junior doctors. A Free Medical Camp for Arthritis and other Rheumatic diseases was organized at Nagrota, a rural area about 12 kms away from Jammu city. Awareness lecture on 'Osteoporosis' was delivered at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu on 18 Oct 2002 - World Menopause Day. Public awareness lecture on 'Menopause and Osteoporosis' was also delivered.

A public function was held in village Bhigwan (Pune District), 100 kms away from Pune. More than 150 villagers from the region attended this function. 137 patients with various forms of arthritis and spine disorders were provided free-of-cost clinical and laboratory examination by CRD, Pune. A special health education issue on 'Spine' was distributed.

A public function was organized by BJD-INDIA: Pune and Mission Arthritis India. Health education talks were delivered on 'Osteoporosis', 'Diet and Arthritis', 'Pain'. BJD brochures and health education material, specially created for the occasion, were distributed.

Mumbai

Oct. 2003

An essay competition on 'Osteoporosis - A Silent Epidemic - Strategies for Treatment and Prevention' was held on the eve of World Osteoporosis day i.e. on 20 October 2003 at Department of Medicine, Seth G S Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai. Medical practitioners and students were asked to send in their essays to the afore-mentioned department.

Update on Rheumatoid hand was organized under the auspices of BJD at KEM Hospital.

120 patients attended the diagnostic camp for detection of Arthritis and Osteoporosis organized at Kshatriya Dnyati Suryawanshi Samaj, Mahim. Therapeutic aspects were discussed with the patients and relevant investigations performed wherever necessary. Patients were asked to follow up in KEM hospital.

Oct. 2003

World Arthritis Day was celebrated by organizing a free diagnostic and informative talk on Arthritis. 440 patients suffering mainly from osteoarthritis of knees were examined free of cost. A medical informative souvenir 'Orthonews VIII' was distributed to 400 local teachers.

Public functions to talk on arthritis & osteoporosis marked the occasion. CME for medical faculty was held in medical college.

A free medical camp and public awareness program was organized in village Bhigwan (Pune District). 300 patients with various forms of arthritis and spine disorders were provided free-of-cost clinical and laboratory examination by Center for Rheumatic Diseases (CRD), Pune.

A free medical camp was held in urban region at Medinova Diagnostic Center, Pune for people suffering from knee pain. 200 patients were clinically examined and required blood tests were done free of cost while 50% discount was given on X-rays.

Public Health Education program, jointly organized by BJD India and MAI. A special advisory health MAI magazine (enclosed) on bone and joint disorders was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. K B Grant, Chairman, Ruby Hall Clinic & Hospital and senior most distinguished physician. These magazines were distributed amongst the audience.

Talks were given on various types of arthritis, the exercise aspect for arthritis patients, 'Osteoporosis its prevention and management'.

Free Public Awareness Program was organized by MAI & Center for Rheumatic Diseases (CRD). Padmabhushan Dr. K H Sancheti, the distinguished guest for the evening, inaugurated the second editionof the annual MAI health magazine issue.

Talks were given on 'Mind & Arthritis', 'Medicine, the modern PRASAAD', 'Soft Tissue - Aches & pains' by experts. The public were entertained by various entertainment items.

17. Madurai 28.11.2004 Prof. T K Shanmugasundaram, BJD Ambassador and Former Chairman of BJD-INDIA: NAN, addressed the public. Several questions and other issues related to bone and joint disorders were answered.
18. Pune 07.10.2005 A 'Meet the Patient Session' organised by CRD, Pune, to commemorate the BJD Activity week 2005 on 07 October 2005 was attended by over 25 patients suffering from different types of musculoskeletal disorders. This session was chaired by Dr. Hans Rasker, Rheumatologist, Netherlands and Dr. Kalindi Phadke, Co-Chairperson, MAI.
19. Pune 08.10.2005 A free of cost medical camp was organised in village Bhigwan (Pune District), WHO-ILAR COPCORD site on 08 October 2005 wherein 200 patients suffering from musculo-skeletal diseases were examined by Dr. Arvind Chopra and his team of experts. The event was sponsored by Unichem Laboratories Ltd.
20. Pune 14.10.2005 The fifth annual function to commemorate BJD Activity Week was celebrated on a grand scale by MAI, BJD-INDIA and CRD, Pune. The program was attended by 350 people from Pune and its neighbouring urban and rural regions.
21. Pune 16.10.2005 A National Trauma Rally was organised by Indian Orthopedic Association (IOA) & BJD-INDIA on 16 October 2005 on the eve of World Trauma Day.
