CURRENT EVENTS 2006

03 June 2006:- The BJD CME held in Coimbatore received an excellent response. Separate sessions lasting for 2 hours each were held for the Gynaecologists and Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. K Mahendranath, Chairman, BJD-INDIA: NAN & Consultant Rheumatologist provided an overview of the aims & objectives of BJD - creating awareness & empowering patients were key targets. Talks on 'Low backache: Myths and facts', 'Disease Modifying drugs in RA', 'Lupus in pregnancy', and 'Osteoporosis Management' were delivered by a national faculty of Prof. T K Shanmugasundaram (Chennai), Dr. K Mahendranath (Bangalore), Prof. Rohini Handa (Rheumatologist, New Delhi) and Dr. Arvind Chopra (National Secretary, BJD-INDIA: NAN & Rheumatologist, Pune) respectively.
The session was chaired by Dr. Seetha Panicker and Dr. Hamsa Kumari, renowned local gynaecologists.
Dr. V Rajamani (State of Tamil Nadu & Kerala BJD-INDIA Liaison officer & Rheumatologist, Coimbatore) played lead role in organising the meeting.

14 - 15 October 2006: A BJD Symposium - Workshop on 'Rheumatic -Musculoskeletal Disorders in India: Burden and Profile' was organised by BJD-INDIA: NAN and Center for Rheumatic Diseases (CRD), Pune, at Hotel Taj Blue Diamond, Pune, and Bhigwan - Baramati. Several eminent Medical Practitioners participated in the Workshop. Dr. R K Srivastava, Director General Health Services, Govt. of India, was the Chief Guest for the event. The event was sponsored by Arthritis Research and Care Foundation - Center for Rheumatic Diseases, IPCA Laboratories Ltd., Unichem Laboratories Ltd., Zydus Cadila Health Care Ltd. and Eli Lilly.

 

10 November 2006: The BJD Symposium organized at IOACON Delhi was a big success. Dr K Mahendranath, Chairman, BJD-INDIA: NAN and Prof T K Shanmugasundaram, BJD Ambassador, presided over the session which was attended by nearly 75 delegates. Prof. Rohini Handa spoke on Clinical Recognition of Spondarthritides. Col. V Chaturvedi, HOD Rheumatology, Army Hospital (RR), outlined the medical management of Spondarthritides with biologic agents, while the orthopedic aspects especially hip replacement surgery were discussed by Col. K R Salgotra, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon, Army Hospital RR, New Delhi. Prof. U Singh, HOD Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, AIIMS, talked about PMR (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) interventions in Spondarthritides. The session elicited very good audience interaction.
The session was organised by Prof. Rohini Handa, Senior Rheumatologist, AIIMS, Dr. Anil Jain, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon, and Prof. Rajesh Malhotra, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon, AIIMS.


PAST EVENTS 2004 - 2005

19 June 2004:- New Governing Body (2004 – 2006) constituted The new BJD-INDIA: NAN Governing Body with new office bearers for the period 2004 – 2006 was constituted during the Executive Committee Meeting held in Bangalore on 19 June 2004. Dr. K Mahendranath, Former President, IRA and Consulting Rheumatologist from Bangalore was nominated the new Chairman, Prof. S S Babhulkar, Former President, IOA and Senior Orthopedic Surgeon from Nagpur was nominated as the Co-ordinator, Dr. A Chopra, Consultant Rheumatologist from Pune will continue as the National Secretary.

25 July 2004:- BJD Ambassador from India initiates launch of BJD in Bangladesh Prof. T.K. Shanmugasundaram, International BJD Ambassador, India, encouraged and motivated Prof Amjad Hossain, Professor & Head of Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh to form a BJD Bangladesh NAN. A CME Programme on “Musculoskeletal Disorders” was held on 25-29 July 2004 with presentation of 24 papers from allied specialists. About 300 doctors and medical students attended the CME. The BJD Bangladesh Chapter was inaugurated at a colourful function on July 26, 2004. Prof Shanmugasundaram will continue his efforts in other countries of South Asia who have not yet joined the BJD movement.

30 June 2005:- Dr. Ambrish Mithal, Executive Committee Member, BJD-INDIA : NAN declared the ‘Doctor of the Year-2005' and felicitated by honorable Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Shiela Dixit.

June 2005:- Dr. Arvind Chopra, National Secretary, BJD-INDIA: NAN, appointed as the Director – Co-ordinator of WHO–ILAR COPCORD in the recently held EULAR meeting in Vienna, Austria.
