On
an all India basis, 5000 BJD posters (sample enclosed) were
distributed for display in major medical institutions and hospitals.
The BJD poster was designed by the BJD-INDIA Head Office, Pune.
The medical representative network of Zydus Cadila ( a corporate
sponsor) was used for this purpose. The Zydus representative
personally handed over the poster, along with a personal message
from BJD-INDIA, to the heads of institute and departments, professors
and consultants. The feed back from these posters will be compiled
and followed up with further fliers/communications.
Numerous programs to commemorate the program were held in Pune,
Mumbai, Jammu, Jalna. The highlights of the program are described
below. A photo album, scrapbook containing newspaper clippings
and cuttings, and a file containing press release and program,
etc. is enclosed.
Sponsorships were provided by Zydus Cadila, Unichem and Aventis.
Pune: A CME program on arthritis and arthroplasty
was attended by 80 doctors on the World Arthritis day.
800 people, mostly patients of musculoskeletal articular problems,
attended a public function organized by BJD-INDIA: Pune and
Mission Arthritis India (a patient support group) on 16 Oct.
01. The program was compared by Mr. Sachin (a patient of ankylosing
spondylitis) and Miss Soma Saluja who provided didactic talks
and crisp messages on BJD and health. Health education talks
were delivered on “Why do patients of arthritis suffer”
and “Care of Spine”. Dr. Kalindi Phadke, chairperson
MAI and a patient with crippling arthritis, delivered a much
appreciated inspirational talk. The community was further entertained
by a beautiful Indian Classical dance recital and the Bombay
Engineering Group military band. BJD brochures and health education
material, specially created for the occasion, were distributed.
Colorful banners and posters were put up at many vantage points
in this Metropolis City of 2.5 million people.
A similar public function was held in village Bhigwan (Pune District), 100 km
away from Pune, on 20 Oct. 01. WHO-ILAR COPCORD (Community Oriented
Program for Control of Rheumatic Disease) is being conducted
in Bhigwan since 1996. More than 400 villagers and 20 doctors
from the region attended. The rural administration machinery
of over 15,000 villagers helped in the program. Banners and
posters were put up in the entire 30 km radius region. 190 patients
with various forms of arthritis and spine disorders were provided
free-of-cost medical and laboratory examination by Center for
Rheumatic Disease (CRD), Pune - in fact a special lab was set
up at the site. BJD and health education material was provided
and discussed. An impressive number of rural based journalists
attended the program and provided excellent coverage. With colorful
banners, and streamers, and villagers in traditional costumes,
the BJD activity week site in Bhigwan looked like a Fair.
Detail audio-visual recording of both Pune and Bhigwan programs
have been done for future public education use.
A team of volunteers from CRD, Pune, COPCORD Bhigwan and MAI
led by Dr. Arvind Chopra organized the Pune region programs.
Mumbai: A CME program on arthritis and osteoporosis
was held in 16 Oct. 01, in the Department of medicine and rheumatology,
K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai under auspices of Prof. Lata Bichile.
Health education material on osteoporosis was distributed.
A health education talk, on “ Myth and Reality of Arthritis”,
was delivered by Dr. Pispati in Jaslok Hospital to about 100
patients.
JALNA: A large number of school children were examined and osteoarticular
deformities picked up by a team of doctors led by Dr. Satish
Goyal.
Jammu: This region, in the
state of Jammu & Kashmir, is in the far Northern reaches
of India.
A CME was conducted on 12 Oct 01 by Govt. Medical College (GMC),
Jammu on the subject “Rheumatoid Arthritis – Emerging
Therapies”. Free Medical Camp for Arthritis and other
Rheumatic diseases was organized on the 14 Oct. at Amar Singh
Club, Jammu. A CME was conducted for rural doctors at Sub-District
Hospital, R. S. Pura (30 Km. from Jammu). Presentation on New
Approach to Low Back Ache was made. World Osteoporosis Day –
was celebrated at Women’s College , Jammu. This was attended
by teachers from two Women colleges from Jammu. More than 100
faculty members attended the function. Public awareness lecture
on Menopause and Osteoporosis was delivered.
The various BJD activity week functions were well covered by
the regional and national newsmedia. Editorials were also written
in local media journals.
The entire Jammu BJD campaign was conducted by a team of dedicated
professionals headed by Dr. Annil Mahajan, a popular rheumatologist
in the region. |
